Vancouver Mixtape

Destroyer at Richards On Richards (RIP) by Femke Van Delft, not to be reused without permission

I have been told of a fine Vancouver mixtape, showing the creative peak that local artists reached before the Olympics wave washed over them. Who will be strong enough to survive?

I would have put a Minimalist Jug Band song on it...

It's a bit ridiculous for Popmatters to say about their mixtape: "This is the time because, after the 2010 Olympics, there will be no music in British Columbia for several years—care of a 92% cut in arts funding over the next two by the province’s Liberals—so I had to get it while the getting was good." I mean, compare that ridiculously exaggerated sentence ("no music ever!") to your A Noise Gig in No Fun City post. There's always gonna be music in Vancouver for as long as there's basements and parking lots and dive bars and art spaces. None of the bands I go see in East Van are being Funded by the Arts.

Yep, I would say they are guilty of anti-Olympics hyperbole on this one. But I won't spank anyone for that.
