tonight at the Pacific Cinematheque: a double-bill of two of the best-loved Ray Harryhausen films,
The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad and
Jason and the Argonauts! Great stuff (though the above image is from neither, but
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Gary Floyd has me thinking of Kali lately, what can I say...). When I was a kid, no one instilled in me a sense of the wonder of cinema like Harryhausen (though Forrest J. Ackerman, also departed, helped immeasurably). I recently revisited both of these films and was pleased to see how well they held up, not just as effects vehicles, but as storytelling...
